December 2008
In recent years
the town of Blessington has expanded at a rapid rate. There have
been great changes and the new Blessington
is a
far cry from the old one which was just a lovely village for a long
number of years. We have seen a lot of new shop units, houses, apartments
etc and a large increase in our population. So those who like to
go out for a pleasant stroll have found it very difficult to find
a safe place to walk. A few years ago the inner relief road was opened
to alleviate traffic problems. A footpath was built alongside the
road and this has become very popular with walkers as it is a safe
place to take a stroll. It streches from the Maxol Garage on the
Dublin side of the town all the way to the Naas Road beside Deerpark
Estate.
Your walk will take you all the way back into Blessington’s
Main Street. However a major problem arises to this very day. There
is not one litter bin all the way along this road which in 2008 is
truly amazing and as a result you will find all kinds of rubbish
thrown over the place which makes this area quite an eyesore and
a health hazard at certain times of the year. Who is to blame? The
developers of the O’Leary Development seemingly still own the
road and are responsible for the conditon of the road and footpath
and Wicklow County Council have not bothered to do anything about
the situation. So what do other people think ?
