Introduction
Response
to Parish Survey Findings (2007)
A parish survey was carried out between October 2001
and May 2002 in order to capture the thoughts and attitudes of adults
in the parish towards
the parish, parish facilities and parish activities. The guest speaker
at the official launch of the survey results in May 2002 was eminent
sociologist, Fr. Micheál McGréil, SJ. His analysis of the
survey results is even more relevant to the Blessington of 2007 than
they were in 2002:
The findings describe a community experiencing expansion of population
with pressure coming on all the institutions within the
town, i.e. education, religion, economy, family, recreation,
policy and law.
Fr. Micheál McGréil SJ,
speaking at the launch of the survey results, May 2002
.
When we undertook the survey we hoped that the findings would help
us to continue to improve existing services and facilities
and would inform
our decisions in meeting the challenges of the future. Now,
in 2007, we have undertaken an informal review of what we have
achieved over the
intervening five years. The review is presented in the context
of the original survey findings.
We should be proud of what we have achieved over the past
five years. There are still some areas that we need to address
and we would welcome
the input and support of all parishioners as we undertake
this work together.
