Ethos Statement:

St Mary’s J.N.S. is a co-educational primary school under the patronage of the
Catholic Archbishop of Dublin in the parish of Blessington, Crosschapel and Kilbride and is under the trusteeship of the Board of Management. The school was founded in 1882 as a single stream linear school and developed into a Junior National School in September 2007. We work in partnership with our sister school “St Mary’s S.N.S”

School’s Characteristic Spirit:

We believe that each person is a unique creation of God and we therefore respect and care for his or her individual needs.
We believe that the underlying principle and the source of strength in our school is fidelity to the Christian values of:

• Love
• Friendship
• Equality
• And respect for self, others and the wider world.

We respect the diverse cultural backgrounds and faiths of our community and endeavour at every opportunity to build positive relationships between school, parish and home.
We aim to nurture the faith of our pupils by providing quality teaching and learning within the framework of the Alive-O programme.

Extra Curricular Activities:

We aim to foster the children’s interests in a wide variety of activities such as:
• Swimming
• Gaelic games (both hurling and football programmes)
• Computers (in class and in our fully equipped computer room)
• Regular visits to Blessington Library
• School library
• Music- recorder and wind instruments with Mr. Terry Clancy. Our pupils in second are learning the tinwhistle.
• Fundraising for charities
• Fun events
• Art classes (run by Art Zone)

The children in all our first and second classes now enjoy the latest teaching methodologies through interactive whiteboards and they are prooving to be both highly effective and thoroughly enjoyable.

Pupils of St. Mary's Junior School enjoy the informal use of Gaeilge as a spoken language and reep the benefits of learning about our culture and our traditions. These are celebrated in a special way during our annual Seachtain na Gaeilge in March.

Green Flag news.. We were successful in getting our second flag which means we now have Stage 1-Litter and Waste Management and Stage -2 Energy Efficency and Conservation. We are now working on Stage 3- Water.
